The St. John’s Rod and Gun Club is one of the top multi-discipline gun clubs in Atlantic Canada. Located near Holyrood, Newfoundland on the Trans-Canada Highway east of the Salmonier Line (Route 90), we offer fantastic facilities for a wide variety of recreational and competitive shooting disciplines. For shotgun sports, the Club features four Trap Fields each with automatic clay target throwers and automated voice release systems. Our Sporting Clays section features a beautiful trail through the forest with multiple shooting stations and a wide variety of manual and electric clay target throwers. Our 15 stall outdoor rifle range provides an excellent opportunity to shoot air rifles, handguns, and long guns (up to and including the 338 Lapua magnum class firearms) from 50 to 200 yards. Our new (2017) outdoor pistol range features 12 shooting stalls with target stands set at 20-25m. Our flexible firing line pistol pit enables us to hold IPSC, IDPA, and Cowboy Action competitions as well as 50 metre rifle competitions. In 2015, our club welcomed the Archery Group with a newly developed 15 target 3D animal field course as well as a 90 meter target range. The SJRGC is represented in various competitions locally, provincially, nationally and internationally by several of our members in many disciplines. Many of these members compete at the highest level in international competitions.
The St. John’s Rod and Gun Club also offers an excellent Junior Program teaching safety, mental concentration, and discipline in areas such as air rifle, firearms, and biathlon. Young people will be our future shooters and hunters, this program stresses the proper handling of airguns and firearms so that safety becomes second nature. Many adults also accompany our juniors to create a fun, friendly, family event.
The St. John’s Rod and Gun Club is a member owned and operated facility and we are listed on the website of the National Association of Shooting Ranges. The club was created to provide an opportunity for firearms enthusiasts to enjoy our sport in a safe, competitive, well-run facility. We are more than just a gun club as we also enjoy participating in fishing, conservation, and social activities. There is also a (currently inactive) Beagle Group. Members new and old are always welcome and urged to take part in all aspects of the club, enjoy our several hundred acres of Forest and Ponds, and to make themselves at home in our cozy log clubhouse.
If you are interested in more information about our facility please contact us.

The Club was formed in the 1950's, when a group of like-minded sportsmen gathered together to create a safe place to practice their shooting skills, enjoy good fellowship, and lobby for conservation of our environment and wildlife resources. With a membership of less than 200 people, the Club was granted a 99-year lease on our 1000 acre site. Years later, we now boast a membership of over 1,100 members (and still growing!). Our beautiful log clubhouse was built in 1962 using materials cut on club grounds and has a full kitchen, large meeting space and beautiful stone fireplace.
Without our members and many volunteer members we would not exist today. We are very grateful for everyone that participates in shooting competitions and to those that help keep the club running. If you are a current member, thank you for your membership and your patronage. If you are a potential new member, we look forward to welcoming you to the Club!
